TRAVEL INFORMATION

Useful information and our advices before traveling…

Arrival

All EU citizens or citizens from other countries are obligated to enter the country with a valid document, identity card or passport. Your children also need their own passport or identity card. We recommend giving to minors, who travel alone, a valid, signed and stamped permission of their parents or legal guardians. Tourists are obliged to register their arrival within 24 hours after arriving at the local Tourism office, but in most cases, the owner of the accommodation make the registration of their guests. When you change your destination, you have to make a new registration in the Tourism office, where your new accommodation is.

Pets

For dogs and cats you need an EU pet passport with a confirmation of prescribed vaccines. Furthermore, we recommend having a health certificate of the veterinary (not older than 4 months) and a confirmation of microchip identity. Dogs have to be on a leash in public, and dangerous dogs have to wear a muzzle. "Fighting dogs" must also be muzzled. The dog can swim in the sea only on special marked beaches or on wild beaches with not much swimming people.

Insects

In the coastal areas and in the country, the presence of a larger number of mosquitoes or ants is possible. For mosquitoes there are devices to plug in sockets, which should completely solve the problem inside the building, and for the outside there are special candles or sprays against mosquitoes. All of this you can buy in every market. For the ants, we recommend not to leave remains of food, which attract ants. In some regions, there are scorpions that are the sign for an intact eco system, but they have no dangerous poison.

Currency

Croatia's official currency is Kuna (HRK 1 Kn = 100 Lipa), the current exchange rate you can check on:

Even though many companies and their owners accept Euro, it is still not the official currency in Croatia. Money can be changed in banks, exchange offices, in some tourist offices and in some hotels. Before leaving Croatian, any remaining amount in Kuna can be replaced in Euro in any bank. ATMs in Croatia accept all known bank, credit and debit cards, the whole Istrian region is well equipped with ATMs, so that, at any time, you can easily get some cash.

Language

The official language in Croatia is Croatian, even though most of the tourism employees and hosts speak English and German very well. The people in Istria are very polite and kind, and they are certainly going to welcome you warmly and give you answers to all your questions about your stay and your destination.

The water from water taps in Croatia is safe to drink. The voltage is 220V, the frequency is 50Hz.
